At the beginning of May, I spent seven days walking the West Highland Way, a 96-mile trail that runs from just outside Glasgow into the Scottish Highlands. Passing through farmland, along lochs, and over rugged hills, this inn-to-inn hike had been on my goals list for years. To finally be there felt a like a dream.
I brought along my Nikon FE and a stack of Kodak Portra 160 and 400 film. I’m not much of a landscape photographer, but one of the things I love about film is that it’s good at communicating the feeling of a place. Looking through these images, I’m remembering the constantly changing light, long hours of walking, and the beauty around every bend regardless of if it was pouring down rain or if the sun was shining.
If I could spend every day wandering through Scotland, I probably would. I’m grateful to the people who maintain the trail, the businesses that support walkers along the way, and the many Scottish folks who were so welcoming throughout the journey.

And for fun, a few cell phone pics and screenshots…
